If you are at, or getting close to, senior status, you likely have been tracking the progress of the various real estate property tax caps being voted into place around the area. Since the state of Missouri made it possible in 2023, the city of STL and counties of STL and St Charles have each voted on this, with 2 passing and one stalled. Jefferson County is somewhere in the middle, it appears they will not be ready for 2024, maybe 2025.
Here is the St Charles detail and application, it is open to residents at least 62 years old as of Jan 1, 2024. The deadline for this year is June 30, and you need to apply every year:
